Cement and its types
read to know!
Cement is hydraulic binding agent that is used in the
construction industry, it is one of the important material that is required as
it sets and harden can bind other material together. Well, in this piece of write up, we will
unveil about different types of the cements that are use in the construction
industry. Technological innovation in the construction industry has helped to
carry out project in befitting manner as result construction industry has seen
the sudden upsurge both in aspect of technological innovation and in expansion
of infrastructure.
Cement used in the construction industry is usually organic
and often lime based and it can be characterized as either hydraulic or non hydraulic
depending upon the ability of the cement to set in the presence of water. To
help you understand both here we have compiled the brief description that will
help you to have better understanding.
·
Hydraulic cements: it won’t be wrong to say that it acts
as adhesive when the dry material comes into the contact with water. The
chemical reaction results into hydration of the minerals and as results as they
are it is quite durable and can easily withstand the chemical attack portland cement
is example of the hydraulic cement.
·
Non hydraulic cement: as the name suggests, it non
hydraulic and this type of cement do not set in wet condition or any
construction process that is carried underwater. The cement sets once it dries
as it reacts with the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. It is also resistant to
chemical attack after setting.
Both hydraulic and non hydraulic are the categories of the
cements that are available and as per the need and nature of the construction
you can easily choose but there are different types of cements that are made out of hydraulic and non hydraulic.
To acquaint you here we have compiled the list and along with its feature so
that you can easily choose the best one that would suffice the purpose.
Types of cements
produced in India!
Portland Pozzolana
Cement (PPC): The fly ash is pozzolonic and in this
type of cement it contains around 35% of the fly ash that helps in maintain the
strength. Since, it allows lower concrete water content. It is one of the cost
effective cement and it is great alternative to ordinary Portland cement.
Ordinary Portland cement
(OPC): this is one of the most common types of
cement that is used for the general construction purpose where there are no
sulphates in the soil or in the water. As we all know modern cements have 28
days strength but with OPC the gained strength is less and this is used with
high water cement ratio, and little glitch in the mixing process with affect
the durability.
Portland Slag cement (PSC): 70% of the cement contains of the following ingredient
ground granulated blast furnace slag, with the rest of Portland clinker and
small percentage of gypsum. This is very high strength cement, and it is use in
mass concrete, in sea water because it has low hydration heat and it has high
sulphate resistance.
